Remembering : Chester Bennington

Linkin Park was the band I listened to get me through hard times and to motivate me to push on when there seems no reason to. Hybrid Theory and Meteora are two of my favourite albums; they had this raw angst on guitars, and Chester Bennigton‘s smoothly built up screams to accompany them. Without doubt a perfect symphony of teenage angst and a prominent voice in the childhood of my generation.

If you are experiencing the loss of Chester as a personal one, it’s totally normal. We often latch on to artists and celebrities we don’t personally know because we see ourselves in them- we hear our stories when we experience their work. When they die it can feel like we’re losing a part of ourselves.

Mental health and depression is such a serious epidemic right now, and even now is seriously misunderstood by most. It probably affects someone you know and you may have not even noticed.

If you are experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts at the news of Chester’s death please reach out to someone. It is okay to grieve the death of someone you don’t know and a mental health professional can help you navigate the choppy sea that is grief. If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts (for any reason) please know that you are not alone. They are not alone.
